You’ve sustained some serious damage.
Trauma is an umbrella term for body damage. This could be from blood loss, burns, diseases, poison, necrosis, psychic abilities, internal bleeding, etc. It represents the main cause of death for most characters.
You typically receive a stack of Trauma upon failing a Death Saving Throw, while at Death’s Door.
Each stack of Trauma imposes a -2 penalty on all of your rolls.
At 3 stacks, you’re Passed Out.
At 5 stacks, you die.
Stacks of Trauma remain even after you escape Death’s Door, as grim reminders of your mortality.
A stack of Trauma is removed naturally every 8 hours of Rest, as your body heals. Depending on the actual cause of the damage and your rest conditions, the GM may increase or reduce the amount of Rest needed.
